Where can I find quotes about the way Crooks looks and about his behavior?

    You can find the most information about Crooks in Section 4.  This section begins with a description of Crooks's room, which is in the barn and secluded from the rest of the men who live in the bunkhouse.  You can also find a physical description of Crooks--his crooked back, his clothing, etc.  Crooks is cantankerous and ornery toward the other men, but in the conversation he has with Lennie, we realize that this is out of frustration with his position:

    S'pose you didn't have nobody. S'pose you couldn't go into the bunk house and play rummy 'cause you was black. How'd you like that? S'pose you had to sit out here an' read books. Sure you could play horseshoes till it got dark, but then you got to read books. Books ain't no good. A guy needs somebody-to be near him. A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody. Don't make no difference who the guy is, long's he's with you. I tell ya, I tell ya a guy gets too lonely an' he gets sick.

    You might also examine the items found in Crooks's room as compared to those found in the apple crates in the bunkhouse.  These items reveal what Crooks values, things like learning and education.
