Lennie has one ambition. He wants to own a ranch or farm with George and tend the rabbits. Of course, the reason for his dream is that he loves to pet soft things and rabbit fur is very soft to the touch. This gives George an advantage over Lennie because whenever Lennie misbehaves, George threatens to not let him tend the rabbits. This is the reason he is so upset at the death of his puppy. He's afraid George won't let him tend the rabbits. It also contributes to the death of Curley's wife because her screams may also arouse George's suspicions and once again, he won't be able to tend the rabbits. However, this is also the dream George uses to calm Lennie before his death.
