This might be a good location to discuss how Steinbeck examines the themes of friendship and isolation. How is the bond shared by Lennie and George reflective of friendship? What is shared between them that resembles this? Perhaps, evaluating this through textual analysis and its development might be a good way to progress. Another evaluative question to analyze might be how economic conditions play a role in the issues of friendship, happiness, and the pursuit of dreams. It is not a mistake that Steinbeck analyzes these issues set amidst the backdrop of economic hardship. This might be another instance to find textual analysis or moments in the text that help to explain how this reality impacts the development of both storyline and characters.
