How did having a dream affect the characters in Of Mice and Men? 

Did it make a difference whether they had the dream or not...please give me quotes for these.

I have dream quotes, but nothing for how it affected them.  Also, what were the changes to their behavior and actions?

    Dreams play a crucial role in the book. According to enotes, the book takes place at the time of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and at a time when prejudice towards outsiders was substantial. Lennie and George are two migrant workers who have to perform grueling physical labor to get by on little pay. Because of the econmic situation, work could be hard to find; it certainly was not a guarantee.

    In this context, dreams carried people through difficult times. Knowing that there is hope in the future despite current dire circumstances can motivate people to continue living.  

    The quotes for these you can find throughout the book; simply find any spot where Lennie asks George to "tell him about the farm."
