Oedipus is horrified that he has killed his father.  He explains to the chorus that the reason he has blinded himself is so that he won't have to meet his father's eyes in death.  He is shamed and tormented by the path his life has taken.  As is said at the close of the first of the trilogy, Oedipus was crushed by his sorrow.
