A Shepherd: the shepherd saves Oedipus, when, as a baby he is abandoned with his feet bound on a barren mountainside
A Messenger: the messenger from the palace sees a grim sight
Antigone: the daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, who are mother and son
Ismene: Antigone’s sister
Summary
Jocasta asks Oedipus to drop the idea of locating the shepherd who saved him from abandonment, but he won’t hear of it. As deaf to her pleas as he is blind to the truth about himself, he vows to discover his origins....
