Please keep in mind that "Odyssey" is the epic poem, and Odysseus is the person about whom the poem was written.

Odysseus was, according to legend, the king of the Greek city state of Ithaca.  His parents were named Laertes (father) and Anticleia.

The Odyssey, which is named after Odysseus, chronicles his adventures as he tries to make his way back home after having fought in the Trojan War.  Odysseus and his men have to make their way past many dangers before they get home.

Along with the Iliad, the Odyssey is one of the earliest and most important works of Western literature.
