When the Cyclops learns that Odysseus is the one who has blinded him, just as Telemus as predicted years before, the Cyclops calls on his father Poseidon and asks that Odysseus not be allowed to reach home. If he must reach home, the Cyclops says, then let him lose all of his men, come home in another man's ship, and discover trouble at home when he arrives. All of these requests come true: Odysseus loses the last of his men after they eat the Sun-God's cattle and Zeus strikes their ship. It is swallowed by Charybdis, and only Odysseus survives. King Alcinous sends his ship to take Odysseus home to Ithaca where Odysseus finds Penelope beleaguered by suitors pestering her to choose a new husband.
