On their way back home, with only one of the four winds blowing them back to Ithaca, Odysseus and his crew almost make it back home.  They are so close that they can see the watch fires on his land.  However, as Odysseus falls asleep, the men grow tired of wondering what's in the bag.  They think he's keeping treasure from them.  They open it, and it blows them all the way back to Aeolus.  However, angered at them, he sends them on their way again with nothing.  They land on the land of the Laestrygonians who destroy all but one ship.  From that point, they sail and land on Circe's island where they are all (except Odysseus) turned to swine.
