Because she rejected his advances, the Duke has poisoned the beloved of Vindice, who now swears revenge. He sees his chance when the Duke's son Lussurioso seeks a go-between to win a woman at court for his pleasure. Disguised as Piato, Lussurioso's pander, Vindice tries to bribe his own sister Castiza to become Lussurioso's lover. She chastely refuses, and Vindice hinders Lussurioso's pursuit of Castiza by revealing that the Duchess, Lussurioso's stepmother, is having an affair with his bastard half-brother Spurio....
