Lady Britomart has been separated for 20 years from her husband, the wealthy munitions manufacturer Andrew Undershaft. She invites him to her house, because she needs money to support her son Stephen and her two daughters Barbara and Sarah. Sarah is marrying a fool, who will inherit money only later. Undershaft arrives, and to the annoyance of Lady Britomart and her son, charms everyone. He takes a particular liking to Barbara, who has joined the Salvation Army and is engaged to a Professor of Greek Adolphus Cusins. Undershaft agrees to visit Major Barbara's Salvation...
