The World (Mundus), the Devil (Belyal), and Flesh (Caro) declare that they will destroy Mankind (Humanum Genus). The newborn Mankind turns from the Good Angel and is tempted by the Bad Angel to be taken by Pleasure (Voluptas) and Folly (Stulticia) to World, where he indulges in worldly pleasures and becomes acquainted with the Seven Deadly Sins. The Seven Virtues rescue Mankind and lead him to the Castle of Perseverance, where he is attacked on all sides by the Sins. Eventually Covetousness (Avaricia) succeeds in enticing Mankind out of the Castle by reminding him that he will need money in his old age....
