Abie Levy has married his ‘Irish rose’, Rose Mary Murphy. Since she is Catholic, he keeps this a secret from his father, Solomon, who hopes that Abie will find a Jewish wife and join the family business. Abie introduces Rose as his fiancée Rose Murpheski from a well-to-do Jewish family, and the delighted Solomon arranges a wedding. Believing the bride to come from California, he decorates the reception with oranges to help her feel at home, but this sectarian symbol horrifies her father Patrick, who assumes that she must be marrying a Protestant. When the fathers learn the truth, both insist that the couple must part, but Abie and Rose defy them both by...
