Octavia E. Butler contributed short stories to various science-fiction collections and periodicals, including Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, Future Life, and Clarion. Her story “Speech Sounds” won the Hugo Award in 1984; a short work of fiction, “Bloodchild,” was honored with the Hugo and various other prizes in 1985.
