Langtry, Lillie

Langtry, Lillie (1852–1929),
British actress, whose stage career was founded on her social connections and personal attractions. She found scope to exploit the latter as Rosalind (1882) discarding, as Ganymede, the traditional boots and trunks for tights alone. She also attempted Lady Macbeth (New York, 1889) and—a decidedly modern—Cleopatra (1890).
