Keeling, Captain William

Keeling, Captain William (d. 1620),
naval commander. Off Sierra Leone, aboard the Dragon of the East India Company, Keeling's men performed Hamlet on 5 September and Richard II on 30 September 1607. Again Hamlet was acted at sea on 31 March 1608, as Keeling explained, ‘to keep my people from idleness and unlawful games, or sleep’.
