interpolations
interpolations, lines or passages suspected of having been introduced into a text without authorization. The process of identifying interpolations can be highly subjective. The Fool's prophecy in King Lear (3.2.79–96), for instance, is viewed by some as an interpolation, whereas others see it as a perfectly germane authorial element of the text. It has also been suggested that the masque in 4.1 of The Tempest and the two songs in Macbeth were late interpolations into Shakespeare's text.
