Fauré, Gabriel

Fauré, Gabriel (1845–1924),
French composer. In 1889 he composed incidental music for Edmond Haraucourt's play Shylock (based on The Merchant of Venice), which he revised as a concert suite for tenor soloist and orchestra in 1890. His incidental music for Julius Caesar (Théâtre Antique d'Orange, 1905) is a reworking of music originally written for Caligula (1888).
