Wynne‐Jones, Tim (1948– ),
Canadian short‐story writer. A multi‐talented creator, Wynne‐Jones has crafted radio plays, the lyrics for a science‐fiction musical, the book and libretto for an opera, and popular songs. He made his children's book debut as a picture‐book writer, when he began chronicling the adventures of Zoom, a cat who followed his seafaring uncle. His short stories, including those published in The Book of Changes and Some of the Kinder Planets, have won numerous awards; they are distinguished by plotlines pared to essentials, emotional truth, and quirky, contemporary, characters. Although reflecting everyday problems such as bullies, hockey‐playing, and making money, the stories often include fantastical elements, corkscrew logic, and an off‐centre point of view.
