Wrede, Patricia C.
Wrede, Patricia C. (1953– ),American writer of fantasy novels for children and adults. Wrede brings European folklore motifs (enchanted harps, magical rings, dragons, elves, etc.) into the six books of The Lyra Series (1982– ), the four books of The Enchanted Forest Series (1985– ); and short stories such as ‘Cruel Sisters’ (1996), based on Scottish balladry. Snow White and Rose Red (1989) is a gentle, romantic retelling of the tale set in Elizabethan England, concerning the plight of two sisters in a woodland cottage at the edge of Faerie.
