Waechter, Friedrich Karl
Waechter, Friedrich Karl (1937– ),German cartoonist and author of satirical essays for adults and picture books for children. Waechter had made a name for himself by working for the German satirical weeklies pardon, Konkret, and Twen before he turned to children's books. The turning‐point was his parodistic retelling of Heinrich Hoffmann's famous Der Struwwelpeter. Waechter had originally intended it for an adult audience, but because of its subject‐matter the Anti‐Struwwelpeter (1970) was readily adopted as a children's book by parents who, in the wake of the 1968 cultural revolution, appreciated its subversiveness.
