Schönlank, Bruno
Schönlank, Bruno (1891–1965),German journalist and writer known especially for his chorus works. Schönlank's commitment to social justice for the working class found expression in his two fairy‐tale collections, Grossstadt‐Märchen (Big City Fairy Tales, 1923) and Der Kraftbonbon und andere Grossstadtmärchen (The Power Candy and Other Big City Fairy Tales, 1928). In the modern urban setting of these Berlin‐based tales, Schönlank's characters surmount problems through their shared sense of community. His Schweizer Märchen (Swiss Fairy Tales, 1938), written in exile from Nazi Germany, incorporate aspects of the Swiss culture and landscape, but remain focused on this ideal vision of community.
