The Oxford Companion to Fairy Tales

Sargood, Corinna

Sargood, Corinna (1941– ),
London‐born artist. She illustrated two collections of woman‐centred fairy tales edited by Angela Carter, The Virago Book of Fairy Tales (reprinted as Old Wives' Fairy Tale Book, 1990) and The Second Virago Book of Fairy Tales (reprinted as Strange Things Sometimes Still Happen, 1992). Informed by folk art traditions, especially from Mexico and Italy, Sargood's lino cuts conflated the natural and human worlds to bizarre effect. She also did the paintings for The Magic Toyshop, the 1987 fairy‐tale film based on Angela Carter's screenplay and directed by David Wheatley.
