Sanvitale, Francesca
Sanvitale, Francesca (1928– ),Italian playwright, essayist, and translator who has shown a particular interest in fairy tales. Her tales, however, are sad for, as she says, they cannot be otherwise, as they concern ghosts and death. Her first novel, Cuore borghese (Bourgeois Heart, 1972), was an immediate success which has steadily increased with titles such as Madre e figlia (Mother and Daughter, 1980), L'uomo del parco (The Man in the Park, 1984), Verso Paola (Towards Paola, 1991), and Il figlio dell'Impero (The Son of the Empire, 1993).
