Reid Banks, Lynne (1929– ),
British novelist and writer of fantasy for young adults, who is mainly known for her Omri series: The Indian in the Cupboard (1980), The Return of the Indian (1986), The Secret of the Indian (1989), and The Mystery of the Cupboard (1993). These works centre on a cupboard with a magic key, and whenever the young boy Omri puts his plastic Indian named Little Bear or other things inside, they either come to life or are reduced in size. The key also brings about time‐travel adventures into the past, and Omri himself becomes involved in them. The series was transformed into the Disney film The Indian in the Cupboard (1995).
