Pajon, Henri

Pajon, Henri (?–1776),
French lawyer who enjoyed an early career as a successful author of fabliaux. He wrote several fairy tales, including ‘Eritzine & Parelin’ (1744), ‘L'Enchanteur, ou la bague de puissance’ (‘The Sorcerer or the Magical Ring’, 1745), and ‘Histoire des trois fils d'Hali Bassa’ (The Story of Hali Bassa's Three Sons', 1745), which were first published pseudonymously in the monthly Mercure de France. Incorporating the oriental setting and characters of A Thousand and One Nights (see Arabian Nights), his tales are distinguished by their elaborate plots, embedded narratives, and proliferation of magical objects and beings.
