Nyblom, Helena
Nyblom, Helena (1843–1926),pioneer of the Swedish literary fairy tale, author of more than 80 fairy tales written between 1896 and 1920. Her most famous fairy tales include versions of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and a variant of Hans Christian Andersen's ‘The Little Mermaid’. Many of her tales, in which she mixes Swedish folklore, ancient myths, and romantic motifs, contain clear feminist messages, typical of her time; they also reflect the general didacticism of turn‐of‐the‐century Swedish literature for children.
