Marinuzzi, Gino
Marinuzzi, Gino (1882–1945),Italian conductor and composer, widely praised for his conducting of Wagner and Richard Strauss, but also important as an interpreter of works by his countrymen, directing the première of Puccini's La rondine in 1917. He studied at the Palermo Conservatory and made his conducting debut in Catania. Among the several posts he held was artistic director of Chicago Opera Association (1919–21), and chief conductor La Scala, Milan, from 1934. Active as a composer, he wrote the ballet Le avventure di Pinocchio , which was later reworked by his son,Gino Marinuzzi (1920– ) in 1956 and entitled, Pinocchio, storia di un burattino.
