Jones, Terry
Jones, Terry (1942– ),Welsh humorist and children's author. Educated at Oxford, he was a founding member of the comedy troupe Monty Python; he wrote and acted for their television series, records, and films (which he also directed). He later collaborated with Pythoner Michael Palin for a BBC series and sequels Ripping Yarns (1977, 1979), whose tall tales were later published and issued on videocassette. He began his second career as a children's writer with Fairy Tales (1981). Accompanied by Michael Foreman's delightful watercolours, their refreshing humour and inventiveness contrasts with the sombreness and violence of the traditional European fairy tale. These loopy tales reinvent the genre, and while some are as dark as the Grimms', they all offer positive models for children.
