Innocenti, Roberto (1940– )Italian illustrator, known for his exquisite, detailed paintings that border on surrealism. In particular, his illustrations for Cinderella (1983), The Adventures of Pinocchio (1988) and Nutcracker (1996) are all highly innovative and range from setting Cinderella in an English village during the roaring twenties and Pinocchio in 19th‐century Florence with palpable reality. His most important experimental book is undoubtedly Rose Blanche (1986) written with Christophe Gallaz. The story concerns a young German girl named Rose Blanche, the name of a German Resistance movement, who is confronted by the horrors of the Holocaust and dies while trying to help concentration camp victims.
