Montague, John Patrick
Montague, John Patrick ( 1929 – ),Irish poet, born in New York, and educated at St Patrick's College, Armagh, and University College, Dublin. His volumes of poetry include Forms of Exile ( 1958 ), Poisoned Lands ( 1961 ), A Chosen Light ( 1967 ), Tides ( 1970 ), The Great Cloak ( 1978 ), and Selected Poems ( 1982 ). New Selected Poems was published in 1990 . Many of his short, intense lyrics evoke the landscapes and heritage of rural Ireland, in a fine, spare diction; other poems recall periods spent in France and America and personal moments of family history. He has also edited various anthologies of Irish literature, and published short stories and a play.
