Maid Marian
Maid Marian,a female personage in the May-game (see May Day ) and morris dance . In the later forms of the story of Robin Hood she appears as the companion of the outlaw, the association having probably been suggested by the fact that the two were both represented in the May day pageants [OED]. According to one version of the legend she was Matilda , the daughter of Lord Fitzwater .
