Kenilworth

Kenilworth,
a novel by Sir W. Scott , published 1821 .

The novel is a celebration of the glories of the Elizabethan age. The fact that the plot is riddled with anachronisms did nothing to impair its popularity with the public; published in the year of the coronation of George IV, the story of Elizabeth and her favourite Leicester and of the betrayal and murder of Leicester's wife Amy Robsart caught the national mood. Shakespeare , Spenser , and Sir Walter Ralegh all appear, and the climax of the novel is the great pageant at Kenilworth in July 1575 .
