Kay, Sir

Kay, Sir,
in the Arthurian legend (as in Malory ), Arthur's steward, a brave but churlish knight. He was the son of Sir Ector and therefore the foster-brother of Arthur. His churlishness is accounted for in the Merlin legends by the fact that he was supplanted by Arthur at his mother's breast and brought up by a rough-speaking nurse. His most famous churlish greetings are those accorded to Sir Gareth and Sir Perceval .
