Ganelon

Ganelon, or Gano ,
in the Charlemagne romances and the Morgante maggiori of Pulci , the count of Mayence, the villain and traitor who schemes for the defeat of the rearguard at Roncesvalles (see Roland ). He figures among the traitors in Dante 's Inferno (xxxii. 122) and in Chaucer 's ‘Nun's Priest's Tale’ (see Canterbury Tales , 20).
