Capote, Truman ( 1924 – 84 ),
American author, born in New Orleans, whose work ranges from the light-hearted story of playgirl Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's ( 1958 ) to the grim investigation In Cold Blood ( 1966 ), a ‘non-fiction novel’ or work of faction , in which Capote recreated the brutal multiple murder of a whole Kansas family by two ex-convicts, and traces the lives of the murderers to the moment of their execution.
