Acmeism

Acmeism,
a school of Russian poetry, led by Gumilev and Sergei Gorodetsky , and including among its members Akhmatova and Mandelstam . They gathered in a group called the Poets' Guild, organized by Gumilev in Oct. 1911 . Their major concerns were the depiction of the concrete world of everyday reality with brevity and clarity and the precise and logical use of the poetic word. They declared themselves opposed to symbolist mysticism and vagueness, and announced their forerunners as Shakespeare , Villon , Rabelais , and Gautier .
