. He played a major role in establishing lithography as a fine art, and published many handsome coloured-plate books with lithographs, hand-coloured aquatints, etc., in association with Prout,

. Combe's The Tour of Dr Syntax in Search of the Picturesque first appeared as ‘The Schoolmaster's Tour’ in Ackermann's Poetical Magazine (

).
