Académie française
Académie française,a French literary academy, established by Richelieu in 1634 to regulate and maintain the standards of the French language. One of its functions is the compilation and revision of a French dictionary, the first edition of which appeared in 1694 and the eighth in 1932 – 5 . The Académie has, throughout its history, exercised a considerable influence on the course of French intellectual life.
