The soldier tells Farquhar that anyone caught trespassing will be hung. The soldier also says he feels that the bridge is a target becauseĀ it will easily burn. Farquhar considers using the information the soldier has brought to stop the Yankees progression. Later, Farquhar and his wife see the soldier heading North, and they realize that he was a Union spy.
