Yamasee Indians
Yamasee Indians,war-like tribe in South Carolina and Georgia during colonial times. After 1715 reduced to a small number, they took refuge mainly in Florida. They are often referred to by Southern authors, notably in Simms's The Yemassee, which deals with their attempt to massacre the English of South Carolina, when incited by the Spanish of Florida (1715).
