Varner, Will,
character in Faulkner's The Hamlet, The Town, and The Mansion, who has economic control of Frenchman's Bend. He arranges for his pregnant daughter Eula to marry Flem Snopes, son of his tenant, Ab Snopes, for which he gives the old Frenchman's Place as dowry. Although angered at being bested by the Snopes clan on deals, he is later forced into making his son-in-law the president of the bank once run by Major de Spain. Another of Will's 16 children by his first marriage is Jody, involved in many of his adventures. In As I Lay Dying Will and Jody are neighbors of the Bundrens, and they are mentioned in Light in August, Intruder in the Dust, and Knight's Gambit.
