Trillin, Calvin
Trillin, Calvin( 1935– ),Kansas City-born journalist, after graduation from Yale was a reporter for Time and then a staff writer for The New Yorker. His nonfictional works include An Education in Georgia (1964), about the first blacks to be admitted to a public university in Georgia; U.S. Journal (1971), vignettes of life in varied parts of the nation; American Fried (1974), on good food in the U.S.; Alice, Let's Eat (1978) and Third Helpings (1983), further adventures of a happy eater; and Uncivil Liberties (1982), witty essays, a form continued in With All Disrespect (1985), If You Can't Say Something Nice (1987), and Too Soon to Tell (1995). Killings (1984) deals with sudden deaths, mainly murders. Travels with Alice (1989) tells of his wide-ranging trips, often abroad, with his wife.
