Talitha Cumi
Talitha Cumi,essay by Samuel Sewall, attacking theologians who denied the resurrection of women. It is subtitled “An Invitation to Women to look after their Inheritance in the Heavenly Mansions,” and with characteristic wit the author says, “If we should wait till all the ancients are agreed in their opinions, neither men nor women would ever get to heaven.” It was first printed in the Proceedings of the Massachusetts Historical Society (1873). The title in Aramaic means “maiden arise,” and is from Mark 5:41.
