Steinem, Gloria
Steinem, Gloria( 1934– ),editor, writer, feminist spokesperson. Born in Ohio, Steinem graduated from Smith College and undertook further studies in India. She began to write on feminist issues for Esquire, Vogue, and Cosmopolitan, and in 1972 she was co-founder of Ms. magazine and was its editor until 1987. Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions (1983) collects 20 years of her feminist pieces. Marilyn: Norma Jean (1986) is a counter-biography to Norman Mailer's on the same subject. Steinem also wrote Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem (1992). Moving Beyond Words (1994) prints six essays, three of them new and three previously published in shorter form.
