Norman, Marsha
Norman, Marsha( 1947– ),Kentucky-born dramatist whose first two-act play, Getting Out (1977, published as a book in 1979), is about a shattered woman emerging from prison and picking up her life. Two minor plays were produced by Actors Theatre in Louisville and a third by American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. She had far better staging of 'night, Mother (1983, Pulitzer Prize), presenting a young woman about to commit suicide. After producing two more minor plays and then her novel, The Fortune Teller (1987), she wrote the book for a musical version of the classic children's novel The Secret Garden (1991). Lunch with Lyn (1994) is a one-act witty collage of lunchtime encounters between a fretful novelist and three friends.
