McPherson, James Alan( 1943– ),
Georgia-born author, after graduation from a local college and degrees from Harvard Law School and Iowa's writing curriculum became a professor of literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz, the University of Virginia, and the University of Iowa and wrote stories, mostly set in the South, published in Hue and Cry (1969) and Elbow Room (1977), the latter collection a Pulitzer Prize winner, succeeded by A World Unsuspected (1987).
