Hwang, David Henry
Hwang, David Henry( 1957– ),playwright. The son of immigrants, Hwang won acclaim and an Obie Award for FOB (1981), about “fresh off the boat” Chinese immigrants and their tactics for survival. Family Devotions (1983) is written on a similar theme. The Dance and the Railroad (1982) concerns an 1867 strike by Chinese laborers building a railroad. M. Butterfly (1988) won the Tony Award as best play of that year.
