Hoffman, Daniel [Gerard]
Hoffman, Daniel [Gerard]( 1923– ),New York City-born author, educated at Columbia, is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. His first book of poetry, An Armada of Thirty Whales (1954), was selected for the Yale Series of Younger Poets. Later volumes include A Little Geste (1960); Striking the Stones (1968); Brotherly Love (1980), a long poem celebrating the city of Philadelphia; and a volume of selected poems, Hang-Gliding from Helicon (1988). He has also written critical works on Stephen Crane (1957), Poe (1972), and Faulkner (1989).
