Hijuelos, Oscar

Hijuelos, Oscar( 1951– ),
born in New York City of Cuban parents, graduated from the City College of New York and became a writer. His second novel, The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love (1989), treats two Castillo brothers who come from Havana to stardom in New York during a period of popularity of mambo music. It won a Pulitzer Prize. Other novels, including his sixth, A Simple Habana Melody (2002), also focus on the music of Cuba.
